LOTT, the Long-term Oxygen Treatment Trial, is funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  NIH, the nation's medical research agency, includes 27 Institutes and Centers and is a component of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) extends coverage of home oxygen treatment to Medicare-eligible patients enrolled in the study, who would not otherwise be covered.


     LOTT is a randomized controlled clinical trial to assess the efficacy of around-the-clock, supplemental oxygen therapy in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and moderately severe hypoxemia.   LOTT is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT00692198).
